About CORE

Centre for Olympic Research and Education

In December 2010, Centre for Olympic Research and Education (CORE) was established for Jigoro Kano’s 150th birth anniversary. Jigoro Kano contributed to development of Japanese physical education and sports as the president of Tokyo Higher Normal School. Also He flourished in international Olympic movement propulsion as the first Asian member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Thus far, this university has practiced and accumulated experiences and knowledge of sports science research and education. As a results, many students and graduates got success in the internationally as the Olympian and Paralympian.
CORE inherits sports history of University of Tsukuba, and promotes practice and development of the Olympic education and research as the Olympic Studies Centre (the first in Japan, 31 institutions in the world) which is authorized by IOC. CORE will cooperate with 11 related institutes such as special support education school and affiliated school.

The definition of the Olympic education of CORE

CORE defines the Olympic education as the educational activities, using sports and the Olympic and Paralympic as materials, that develop human resource who will contribute to making world peace by international point of view.

  3. Study of value and philosophy of the Olympic

Value and philosophy of the Olympic are the positive value which all sports have.

Objective of the Olympic education is to educate human resources who have these 5 values and contribute to international peace.
